About Guntersville

Guntersville is the county seat of Marshall County, set along Lake Guntersville at the southernmost point of the Tennessee River in Northeast Alabama, with the foothills of the Appalachians as its backdrop. The city calls itself "Alabama's Lake City."

The town was originally known as Gunter's Landing and took the name Guntersville in 1854, growing into a busy port for boats traveling the Tennessee River. Lake Guntersville was later formed by Guntersville Dam, built in the late 1930s and maintained by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
