About Boaz

Boaz sits atop the Sand Mountain plateau in Northeast Alabama, between Gadsden and Guntersville. Most of the city is in Marshall County, with part extending into Etowah County.

The area was settled in the early 1850s, and the town was founded on November 11, 1878, when several families led by the Sparks family relocated from Georgia. Boaz incorporated in 1897, and its economy grew from the farmland of Sand Mountain.

In the 1970s Boaz was one of the first places in Alabama to attract factory outlet stores. Today the historic downtown is home to local small businesses, and Snead State Community College is within walking distance.
